Home | Family Tree | Early Leighs |
Edmond Phillips was the second child of David and Mary Leigh Phillips and was born in 1831. Not much is known about him. Edmond was mentally and/or physically handicapped. Margaret Marshall, a great grand niece of Edmond, recalls conversations by her father and her uncle that indicated Edmond was the subject of much secrecy and was often the center of family jokes.
Edmond apparently did not live at home with his parents but was probably taken care of elsewhere. In the 1851 Census for Lobo township, Edmond was not listed as a member of the household. He was about 20 years of age at that time and would normally have been home working on the family farm. In his father's will, dated 13 December 1867, Edmond was left the sum of $20. He was about 36 years of age when his father signed the will, but his whereabouts at that time are not known. He is believed to have died in the poor house.
